Staying in Vienna
Hotels, Hostels and Pensions

Vienna offers the full range of sleeping options. Starting at basic youth hostels and student residences and going up to luxurious hotels where modern design and imperial Vienna come together for the typical Viennese charm. In between you can find homey pensions and a small but smart range of apartments for long-term rentals.

During high season – June to September and over the Christmas and New Year Period – prices are usually high and often there is a lack of availability at popular choices. At this time it's best to book ahead.

Finding a hotel

Staying within Vienna's Innere Stadt is convenient for sightseeing and for visiting many of our classical concerts, but also the most expensive option. Many hotels and pensions between the Ringstrasse and the Gürtel can be a better deal – prices are lower and the Innere Stadt is yet within easy striking distance. Generally, the further out a hotel from the inner city is the lower prices tend to be, but so does ease of accessibility.

If you have a car, keep in mind that parking costs in the city center can be high (up to € 26.00 per day). A better option might be to find somewhere further out where you can safely leave your car and then rely on public transportation. Even if you stay out late and have to take a taxi, the taxi fare will still be less than a day's garage fees.

Youth hostels and youth guest houses

Vienna's youth hostels offer more than 1,800 beds in friendy and familiar atmosphere at reasonable prices. All youth hostels and youth guest houses follow assured quality standards for a safe, clean and comfortable stay and offer a consistent high level of services and facilities. Most hostels also have facilities for a range of special needs and many have wheelchair access.
