Not only is the Mozart Ensemble an insiders' tip among the friends of Viennese classic, but also the concert hall, albeit hardly known, is a jewel among the concert halls. The Sala Terrena is located on the ground floor of the Deutschordenshaus, in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, only 25 years of age, was working and lodging with bishop Colloredo's entourage. Built in the second half of the eighteenth century, in the late Renaissance Venetian style, during the reign of Carl Borromäus Count Colloredo Waldsee (land commander from 1764 to 1786). A place of pleasure with its grotesque scenes of baroque sensuality, the floral paintings and the animal scenes. It is here in the Sala Terrena, where Mozart gave concerts for the Viennese aristocracy, even some of his concerts had their world premiere at this very place.
The Mozart Ensemble string quartet performs well-known compositions, as well as string quartets by composers like Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven.
The concerts take place on Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 19:30, and on Saturday at 18:00. For a complete list of dates please refer to the concert calendar.
