Salon Orchestra Alt-Wien at the Kursalon

Salon Orchestra Alt-Wien
Strauss and Mozart concerts at the Vienna Kursalon

At the very place where Johann Strauss directed his orchestra personally from the position of first violin, the absolute essence of Vienna’s classical music can once again be heard regularly. The Salon orchestra Alt-Wien, among the best-known interpreters of classical Viennese music, presents together with excellent opera vocalists and enchanting ballet soloists, an evening full of Viennese charm with the cheerful sound of waltzes, polkas, arias and duets as well as operetta and piano concerto melodies.

Salon Orchestra Alt-Wien at the Kursalon

The Salon Orchestra Alt-Wien was founded in 1999 by Josip Susnjara and Professor Udo Zwölfer, the longstanding first concertmaster of the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper. Of particular note is, that the Salon Orchestra Alt-Wien achieves its wonderful symphonic sonority without a conductor. Instead of the conductor, it is the concertmaster who, like Johann Strauss and Josef Lanner, leads the orchestra from the violin.
